Carl SANDburg Luncheon: Poetry, Music & Summer Reads

For nearly two decades (1928–1945), Carl Sandburg made his home along the Michigan Dunes, where he wrote some of his most important works. Surrounded by sweeping sands and the ever-changing shores of Lake Michigan, he found solitude and inspiration in the rhythms of nature.

To honor Carl Sandburg’s 1931 performance at the Peoria Women’s Club, we invite you to a luncheon inspired by the beach before an afternoon of poetry, music, and storytelling.

In May we will feature a presentation by Dr. Jane Talkington, the nation’s only botulism historian after the luncheon. She will discuss the history and misconceptions surrounding botulism, drawing from her new book, Recognizing Botulism: New Insights from Old Narratives, which explores how the illness is more common than widely believed.
