Musical Bridges: An Afternoon with Oboist James Kim

  • Peoria Women's Club 301 Northeast Madison Avenue Peoria, IL, 61603 United States (map)

This elegant gathering will celebrate both the timeless beauty of Handel’s compositions and the generations of women who have sustained Peoria’s musical legacy. Chartered in 1886, the Peoria Women’s Club played a formative role in the city’s classical music history. Its music department was led by Elizabeth Plowe, whose family co-founded the Peoria Conservatory of Music and helped launch Peoria’s first symphony orchestra in the late 19th century. In 1951, the Peoria Symphony Guild (originally known as the “Women’s Symphony Guild”) was formed by many of the same civic-minded women to support the symphony’s mission—a partnership that continues today.

Join us in the Club’s beautifully restored first floor for light refreshments, a preview of the weekend’s performance, and a celebration of our shared musical heritage. Then, experience Handel’s brilliance live with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra on November 14 & 15 at 7:30 PM at St. Mary’s Cathedral, featuring Sinfonia in B-flat Major, Oboe Concerto in G Minor, and Water Music
