June Carl SANDburg Luncheon: Poetry, Music & Summer Reads

  • Peoria Women's Club 301 Northeast Madison Avenue Peoria, IL, 61603 United States (map)

From 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, browse handpicked summer reads at our pop-up book booth, hosted by Cheryl Langley, Manager of The Book Nook—the largest used bookstore in Peoria, with 140,000+ books in stock.

For this event, Cheryl will bring a curated collection of romance and mystery books set around summer and the beach—perfect for lighthearted reading with a touch of suspense!

Starting at 1 PM, our featured performer, Barry Cloyd, will bring Sandburg’s legacy to life through music, poetry, and storytelling.

Barry has developed a deep fascination with Sandburg—not just as a poet, but also as a musician and folk musicologist. His program, Carl Sandburg: Poet of the People, weaves together:

  • Sandburg’s stunning free verse poetry and prose

  • Stories of Abraham Lincoln, drawn from Sandburg’s acclaimed biographies

  • Traditional American folk songs that Sandburg helped preserve

  • Barry’s original compositions inspired by Sandburg’s themes

This unique performance will entertain, educate, and provide a deeper insight into Sandburg's vision of America, its people, and its history.
