The Dallinger Series Book Discussion: Winning the Earthquake
Friday, June 12th, 2026 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Dirksen Congressional Center, 2815 Broadway, Pekin, Illinois 61554

As part of the 2026 Dallinger Series theme, Honoring Her Legacy: A Celebration of Women’s Voices and Empowerment, members are invited to a special book discussion of Winning the Earthquake by Lorissa Rinehart hosted by writer and educator Lynette Steger.

This acclaimed biography explores the extraordinary life of Jeannette Rankin—the first woman elected to Congress, a champion of women’s suffrage, and a lifelong advocate for peace and democratic reform. Rankin famously voted against American entry into both World War I and World War II.

Hosted at the Dirksen Congressional Center, whose mission is to promote research and scholarship to advance the public understanding of the U.S. Congress, this gathering offers the perfect setting to reflect on Rankin’s groundbreaking public service.

Participants will also learn more about the connection between Rankin and Everett McKinley Dirksen (1896–1969) through materials preserved in the Center’s archives, shared by Tiffany White, Executive Director.

This Event is FREE & No Registration is Required.
