Peoria IGNITE! Volunteer Opportunity
Saturday, August 8th, 2026 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Peoria Civic Center

Please sign up for a two-hour volunteer shift

Peoria Women’s Club members are invited to volunteer for Peoria IGNITE!, a family-friendly community event celebrating creativity, learning, and connection.

Our Club will host a special peace-themed activity inspired by the women of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, whose leaders the U.S. State Department invited to serve as consultants at the 1945 conference that created the United Nations Charter. At a time when women were rarely included in international policy discussions, GFWC was one of only five women’s organizations selected to participate, helping ensure women’s civic voices were represented in building a more peaceful postwar world.

The activity also highlights a Central Illinois connection: Sol Bloom, born in Pekin, helped suggest the famous opening words of the Charter’s preamble, “We the peoples of the United Nations.”

Families attending IGNITE! will create Peace Doves, share hopes for the future, and enjoy our Wings of Peace photo station.

Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to assist with setup, greeting families, helping at the craft tables, monitoring the photo station, selling Cosecheras Coffee, and cleanup.

This is a wonderful opportunity to represent the Peoria Women’s Club, support a community arts event, and share our legacy of women’s leadership, citizenship, and service.
