The exhibition will open on Saturday, March 8, 2025, International Women’s Day, with a public reception where the three prize-winning artists will be announced. This event aims to honor and celebrate the creativity and accomplishments of women artists in the Tri-County area. Électricité: Illuminating Perspectives will spotlight their innovative work and provide a platform to elevate female voices in the arts.
In addition to the exhibition, we are pleased to offer a special illustrated lecture by Kristan McKinsey, titled Creating a Stir: Early Women Artists of the Peoria Area. The lecture, scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2025, will explore the stories of pioneering women artists from central Illinois, including two founding members of the Peoria Women’s Club. Kristan will illuminate the historical contributions these women made to the region’s cultural life, even in times when women were discouraged from pursuing creative careers.
The exhibition will conclude with a luncheon on Thursday, March 20, 2025, where the prize-winning artists will be honored and invited to discuss their work. Additional viewing opportunities will be available at noon each Wednesday during the exhibition.
